The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is the premier research organization charged with public health research in Kenya. Established in 1979 KEMRI runs 12 research centers across the country with six main research programs including on infectious, parasitic diseases and public health. At the Center for Global Health Research program, KEMRI runs a One-Health program in collaboration with the Paul G Allen School for Global Animal Health-Washington State University, the Zoonotic Disease Unit of the Government of Kenya, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention-Kenya, among other partners. The KEMRI One-Health program runs a linked human and animal surveillance system, which provides an excellent and unique platform to study human and animal health simultaneously and test interventions in animal health that impact human health and opportunity.
