Thumbi Mwangi is a Wellcome Trust fellow at the Kenya Medical Research Institute, a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Paul G Allen School for Global Animal Health-Washington State University and a visiting scientist at the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases. He holds a Veterinary Medicine and Surgery degree and a Masters of Science in Genetics and Animal Breeding from the University of Nairobi, a PhD in Infectious Disease Epidemiology from the University of Edinburgh, UK. Thumbi’s research investigates the zoonotic, socio-economic, nutritional and environmental linkages between human and animal health. He runs linked human-animal health surveillance projects in rural Kenya, and intervention programs aimed at reducing risk of disease transmission from animals to humans.
